what does this mean to people who are on the list because Im sure there is no real chance of actually getting promoted with this program right.

Up until recently, my MOS was 450pts for SSG.

So if someone was in long enough, they would automatically get promoted.

The big deal with this milper message is the parts that ArmyReenlistment highlighted.

They can be in long enough and have enough time to make the auto list. Then if they have more than 90days left they Can be promoted to SSG. If they get promoted they AUTOMATICALLY have to stay in another year..

If someone is ON the auto list, they can NOT add promotion points- they have to go to the board first and get a 3355..

Correct me if Im wrong but you say you are a

I am so confused by your tactics. Take it from someone who got promoted to SSG with 2 waivers you have a way to go. If you are expecting to get put on this automatic promotion list you have a

long time to go. You my friend are not ready for the next step. Give it a few more years before you start worring about it.

I dont know about any other units but in 3-69 3rd ID automatic promotable doesnt mean anything until the points drop to 350 for SGT or 450 for SSG. Then all of a sudden it means something. I wish I would have never got on the list because I get tired of being told it doesnt mean anything to be promotable unless you have been to the board. If it doesnt mean anything just do away with it. Dont tell a person he is promotable then tell him it doesnt mean anything.

I dont go around saying that Im promotable or feel that Im any better than any other SGT. I was trying to help. We have this 24 hour guard duty we have to do that requires one SGT(P) or above and one Soldier. We have three SSGs and one board promatable SGT(P) so some shifts it was me and one of the SSGs or the real SGT(P) on the same shift. So I told the SSG that Im promotable and that I didnt see any reason they could not give me a Soldier to pull the shift with me so they would not have to pull double shifts everyday. The SSG thought it was a good idea so he gave me my first shift. Here comes a SFC and says there has to be a SGT(P) or above on this guard. I responded with Im a SGT(P). He said have you been to the board. I said no of course. He said it does not count then. This is my fourth deployment so I do feel that I have EARNED IT.

Some people get their skivvies in a bind over what amounts to trivial matters. Not saying that guard duty is trivial, but splitting hairs over what counts as a real (P) status is just silly. Of course, thats just my opinion, which doesnt really count for much.

deployment does not equal promotable…obviously it sets you apart from your peers that have not deployed or have deployed less than you…but being deployed does not make you promotable, so if you have not gone to the board technically you have not earned that promotable status like the people that have gone to the board, you are promotable regardless, and for duty rosters you should fall as SGT (P) but see where im getting at…you havent earned that (P)….

TransAm95NCO I understand what your saying and I agree 100%. Maybe I will make it to a board one day. I have trouble memberizing information and I get very nervous around people that Im not around daily so I dont know if I will ever earn it that way but I am going to try harder.

Okay, One question. I meet the TIS June and am elgible in July (84mths TIS). Im good TIG. Want I want to know is say July the points for my MOS drops to 450, but from what Im being told by my Rater is that my MOS has to have a star by it on the promotion list in order for me to be promoted. Now when I read this Milper message (which I realised was put out Feb 2008) it says nothing of your MOS having to have a star saying that it will except automatic promotion listees. That is what is being told to me. So I am asking for clarification if this is true. I went to the message itself and read it over and over and nothing about this. It just says as long as you meet the criteria stated in ArmyReenlistments Blog that you will provided the commander hasnt refused you and your points drop to 450 you will get the promotion. Any information would be helpful. Ive seen one person who made E-5 through automatic list and I remember everyone having a cow. However it is up to the Commander. If he believes the soldier is ready then he deserves the promotion whether a board proceeding happened or not. In a sense that would be a like a board because I do remember the soldier being brought into the commanders office about the promotion list. I am typing this in response to some of the other blogs on here. The board is not everything. In actuality the board proceedings are unnecessary in the fact that… say give an NCO or Soldier who works 3 different jobs, has numerous soldiers and excels in everything but as soon as he gets to the board he freezes. Now hes not promotable. Then take another NCO or Soldier who is mediocre and goes into the board and walks out 5 minutes later with saying or doing nothing more then just walking in. Now hes promotable. How is that fair. Theres alwasy more to the story then what you see on his ERB. So he went to the board and he earned it is wrong. You earn it by doing your job and gaining the respect of your subordinates and peers and your Officers. If they say he is ready and do not deny him and he makes the promotion list, then he has earned it. Thats the way I see it. Yes you can say that well the Commander may have not noticed it, well then that means the Training room NCO missed it, The 1sg missed, the Battalion s1 missed it and so on. It goes through other peoples hands before it gets to the commanders hands for recommendation. Lots of people to influence the whole soldier not just whether he went to the board or not. Thats just my opinion, take it for what its worth. Thankyou for anyone who is able to highlight my question so I can clarify it with my Rater.

ArMyDaD_of_2 From my understanding of the system when your points drop to 350 for SGT or 450 for SSG your MOS is automaticly a star MOS. But that does not mean that you will get promoted just because you make cut off. It depends on how many people the Army needs to promote and how many people are ahead of you to get promoted. They will promote the people that has been to the board and only scored 350 first then they will start on the automatic list. You are also right about some people and I am saying some not all that go to the board. Just because they pass a board doesnt make them a good NCO. I still respect the Soldiers that go to the board because they have done something that so far I have not been able to bring myself to do. My Rater says Im a hard worker and I think he thinks Im a good NCO. I learn something new everyday and have a lot more to learn because the Army is always coming out with new and better, well not always better, things for me to work on. Im a M1 mechanic by the way. Hope this helps and thanks for your input.
